Sorin Bica on the Front door framingham project
I’ve been a Framingham resident since 2002. Painting the Front Door Framingham Mural was both an honor and an opportunity to reflect the vibrant community that is Framingham, and expose its diverse citizens to relevant contemporary art. This project was never simply an art commission – it became a wonderful public cause.
In securing funding to start this work, we moved from the traditional sources of art grant awards to an exercise in real community-building through small donations and a successful Kickstarter campaign. As the funding goal came closer into view and take shape, it reflected in true sense, communal ownership.
The Gateway Mural became a leader in the larger art movement of surrounding communities and elsewhere, to bring art works to the people and involve them in the creation of, and dialogue about, art.
